Linux kernel是美国Linux基金会发布的开源操作系统Linux所使用的内核。NFSv4 implementation是其中的一个分布式文件系统协议。 Linux kernel 2.6.38之前版本的net/dns_resolver/dns_key.c中存在漏洞。远程DNS服务器可通过不能提供有效DNS查询响应导致拒绝服务（空指针和OOPS），正如grand.centrall.org的错误查询，即通过DNS解析密钥中数据错误的不正确操作所证明的。
