libiec61850 Oversized RptID Triggers Invalid Free of Stack Memory (DoS)

Vulnerability Overview Vulnerability Name: Oversized RptID can trigger invalid free of a stack-backed visible string in the report send path Description: A server-side memory corruption issue exists in the report sending path of libiec61850 v1.6.1. When a client writes an oversized to a Report Control Block (RCB) and enables reporting, the server accepts the write request and proceeds to send the report. Within the function, a stack buffer ( ) is wrapped as a temporary visible string and passed to . If the actual exceeds the capacity of this temporary stack buffer, the generic visible string update logic triggers a resize operation, which attempts to free . Since this pointer references stack memory rather than heap memory, it results in an invalid free, causing the server to crash.
